Those delicate postpartum days, when time has no meaning, and the primal love-language between mother and infant is flooding with love, curiosity and marvel.

I had the honour of photographing this new mother and son within days of birth.

A language barrier made our time together unique and quite special, having to communicate from a place outside of words. Sensitive to a new mother’s needs and tuning into her vibrations as she navigated the needs and rhythms of her newborn, felt like sacred work.

It was powerful and delicate all in the same breath. There was a familiarity to it; working through such quietude which held so much knowing and tenderness.

This session revealed a truth that lives inside me. About the unspoken language we are all fluent in. If we tune into our senses and forget about seeming silly to put ourselves out there in order to ‘speak’ this language - it is the most beautiful form of communication.
